Tufboxes put to some innovative uses
Tufboxes - those storage boxes bolted to the tray behind the cab of utes to carry and store equipment securely - are being spotted in some unusual places this summer.
Fully Equipped, the nationwide chain of commercial and recreational 4wd vehicle accessory specialists is experiencing exceptionally strong demand for its Tufboxes and theyíre not just going into the back of utilities.
The company's national sales and marketing manager Wayne Robertson says he knows of Tufboxes going into children's bedrooms to store toys, to schools and clubs to hold sports gear. "They're being used as fish bait bins, DIY tool boxes, being filled with garage gear and doubling up as seats when the barbie's been hurried indoors. I've discovered they also make pretty good ice and drink containers." he says.
Made from super tough structural foam plastic that tolerates extreme environmental temperatures without discolouring, cracking or warping, Tufboxes are widely used by light commercial and recreational vehicle owners to carry and store equipment and belongings.
Typically they are located behind the cab of utility vehicles and span the width of the deck and are bolted to the floor of the vehicle from the inside of the box. Designed to compliment the lines of the vehicle, they come with a self-sealing weatherproof lid and are key secured.
Tufboxes are also popular with boaties and 4WD users for secure and convenient stowing of fuel, ropes, wet suits and boating gear.
"I guess the many and varied uses people are finding for Tufboxes reflects the flexibility of the range,"says Wayne. "They come in all shapes and sizes and range from the compact portable box to the traditional full-width storage units seen on the back of many light utilities."
