Snorkels are latest accessories for 4WD users

Nobody wants to find themselves stranded in a river bed with water in their engine and clogged air filters. Such embarrassing 4WD moments can be avoided this summer if drivers have their vehicles fitted with a clean-air snorkel.

Wayne Robertson, national marketing manager for 4WD equipment specialists Fully Equipped, says snorkels reduce the risk of clogged air filters in utilities and are an essential piece of equipment for any one with a 4WD who is planning a drive through water.

"Snorkels are far more than a fashion accessory - though they can be just that - they help the engine breath better." Says Fully Equipped marketing manager Wayne Robertson.

"Each Airtec snorkel comes with a fitting kit which extends the original aircleaner intake out through the sidewall and up to roof level. The external snorkel tube is shaped to fit snugly to each vehicle's screen pillar." says Wayne.

The air ram at the top of the snorkel separates rain and moisture from the airstream before it enters the engine, and optional precleaner kits are available for use in extremely dusty conditions.

Wayne says 4WD operators will notice their engines breathe better and diesel owners in particular will have the security of knowing that a wellsealed snorkel system will enable them to ford deep crossings without the risk of expensive water damage to engines, let alone the possibility of being stranded.

"Even in less testing conditions snorkels make sense, as they draw cool air in from roof level where dust and road grime aren't as plentiful. A snorkel, working with the original aircleaning system, helps extend the life of air filters thus reducing wear and enhancing engine efficiency," says Wayne.

Wayne advises 4WD owners seek specialist advice when purchasing a clean-air snorkel for their vehicle.
