'Fully Equipped' service bodies proving popular with City Councils

The need to transport equipment from site to site with optimum security and storage flexibility has seen more and more and more City Councils turning to Service bodies for their solution. In Auckland, faced with damage to overhead foliage from trucks, local parks and recreation staff have chosen Service bodies as their answer.
Service bodies are a one piece, all steel unit that fit neatly onto one-tonne cab chassis utilities. They are custom built to provide up to eight externally accessible, weather-tight, side lockers, two lidded upper compartments and a heavy-duty central deck area to accommodate building materials, ladders, pipes and the like. Weighing just 340 kg, every XL service body is fully corrosion protected by dipping in a five-stage phosphate bath before powder coating. Because the body reaches down to cab sill level, it provides a low centre of gravity for good road handling.
The Service bodies are manufactured in Australia by XL and distributed in New Zealand through Fully Equipped. XL is a leading force in specialised transport accessories and fire fighting equipment manufacturing. Service bodies are already in use in every state and territory in Australia and along with New Zealand are exported to Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and the United Arab Emirates.
Apart from City Councils, the Service body has also gained a broad acceptance amongst fleet users such as emergency services, telecommunications and related contractors, and for power supply maintenance work.
Wayne Robertson, Marketing Manager for Fully Equipped says that in the US market, Service bodies have almost obliterated the conventional light van over the past decade. Whether that is a trend we are likely to see here is open to debate he says.
In the short term however, expect to see more Service bodies here, as owners recognise their versatility and practical applications.
